Tlon is the corporate vehicle of the open-source Urbit software stack (urbit.org). Tlon does deeply technical work that involves decentralizing software system stacks for specific needs. It’s actually pretty cool, and if you’re curious about it, we definitely recommend their solutions.
Their marketing team had planned a one-day crowd sale and they wanted a seamless, customized interface that their new customers would easily connect with to complete a purchase. An excellent customer experience was critical to success.
The solution had to work perfectly, while handling significant load, or the company stood to lose substantial sales-- they couldn’t afford to skimp on reliability. Their own engineering team did not have the time to do the work efficiently, and so they sought outside help.
They already knew Dave Jackson and his work at Green Mars from an introduction a few months prior, so they reached out to him and requested a quote for the project. They could have solicited other bids from other vendors, but Green Mars was responsive and reliable, and easy to engage, so they simply hired us to get started right away.
Green Mars built the Tlon solution in Django and React, and deployed a REST API to integrate with the Stripe payment service. The solution allowed Tlon to track details of the orders via a Django Admin Console.
Green Mars designed a custom solution to support the style of customized auction the client desired, then wrote it, tested it and deployed it. Within the first 7 hours of their sale event, the platform had booked over $500,000 in revenue, with no issues.
